Explore high-purity inorganic chemicals engineered for agricultural output, heat storage, and industrial manufacturing.
Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN), chemically described as a combination of ammonium nitrate and calcium carbonate (often sourced from dolomite), has evolved into one of the most critical nitrogen fertilizers globally. As agricultural practices shift towards ecological preservation, soil health restoration, and water pollution abatement, CAN serves as the definitive alternative to traditional urea. Its unique molecular structure provides immediately available nitrate-nitrogen alongside sustained-release ammoniacal nitrogen, significantly minimizing ammonia volatilization.
Understanding the upstream manufacturing dynamics is vital for raw chemical procurement directors. The synthesis of high-quality CAN typically follows a dry-mixing or direct wet-granulation route. Nitric acid acts upon ammonia to create concentrated ammonium nitrate melt. In our advanced Shanxi-based chemical facility, we run an optimized pug-mill granulation system where ultra-fine dolomite (containing high concentrations of active calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate) is combined directly with the liquid ammonium nitrate melt. This ensures that every individual granule possesses uniform chemical composition, preventing dry ingredient segregation during transit and mechanical distribution.
From a global supply perspective, China has established itself as a cornerstone manufacturer of premium water-soluble CAN. Industrial hubs, leveraging nearby raw material inputs (coal gasification and limestone quarries), are positioned to deliver highly cost-competitive exports. As environmental standards tighten across Europe and North America, buyers are shifting towards verified manufacturers that implement zero-emission waste-gas scrubbing processes and heat recovery loops. Shanxi Vojin New Materials utilizes high-efficiency energy recycling systems, ensuring that our environmental impact remains well within international compliance limits.
The agronomic superiority of CAN lies in its chemical neutrality. Unlike ammonium sulfate or urea, which tend to acidify soils over continuous application, Calcium Ammonium Nitrate is physiologically neutral. Soil acidification is a major bottleneck limiting crop yields across Latin America and Southeast Asia. The continuous application of CAN supplies vital soluble calcium ($Ca^{2+}$), which plays a dual role: it serves as a macro-nutrient for cell wall development, and acts as a soil conditioner, displacing sodium ions in sodic soils to improve flocculation and water infiltration.
Our state-of-the-art production facility in Shanxi holds standard ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and OHSAS 18001 certifications to ensure safety, consistency, and traceability.

For industrial buyers, purchasing Calcium Ammonium Nitrate is not merely a transaction; it represents a commitment to chemical integrity. At Shanxi Vojin New Materials, our manufacturing line integrates key stages to deliver optimal physical-chemical characteristics:
The operational efficiency of mechanical spreaders relies heavily on bulk density and grain-size distribution. Our facility features a state-of-the-art prilling tower and drum granulators capable of producing spherical granules with high crushing strength (>30N). Higher crushing strength translates to minimal dust formation during handling, maritime shipping, and bulk blending. Dust reduction is essential to prevent product caking, which can clog warehouse equipment and logistics pipelines.
With regulations like the European Union's Fertilising Products Regulation (FPR 2019/1009) enforcing strict limits on heavy metals (Cadmium, Lead, Arsenic, and Chromium), our raw material screening protocols are rigorous. Our dolomite inputs undergo complete ICP-MS analysis before entering the reaction vessel. Consequently, our CAN products consistently present heavy metal thresholds well below the most stringent global benchmarks, ensuring safety in food production supply chains.
Due to the hygroscopic nature of ammonium nitrate compounds, CAN is prone to clumping under hot and humid environments. We apply a proprietary, biodegradable surfactant coating to our granules. This microscopic hydrophobic barrier keeps the granules free-flowing even after months of storage in regional distribution warehouses under challenging weather conditions.
As chemical manufacturers, we recognize our role in the global carbon transition. Shanxi Vojin New Materials is actively investing in technologies to couple green hydrogen and green ammonia synthesis loops directly with our nitrate production. By utilizing renewable energy for air separation and hydrogen generation, we aim to decrease the carbon footprint of our nitrate compounds by 30% over the next decade. Additionally, we are optimizing our thermal storage molten salt processes to aid concentrated solar power (CSP) generation globally, creating a circular model of clean energy and advanced chemical synthesis.
Driven since 2000, we have been committed to the entrepreneurial spirit and passion for innovation. Our team takes pride in delivering dependable products and services with a quality distinction in thermal energy storage & water-soluble fertilizer industries globally.
Our company was formally established in 2010. Our standard Calcium Ammonium Nitrate is synthesized by blending ammonium nitrate hot melt with ground calcium carbonate/dolomite. The typical nutrient composition features 15.5% Total Nitrogen (containing 14.4% Nitrate Nitrogen and 1.1% Ammoniacal Nitrogen) alongside 19% Calcium (Ca equivalent to 26% CaO). For specific agricultural requirements, we can adjust the formulation to provide custom micronutrient levels (such as Boron additives) during the granulation process.
Caking occurs due to temperature and humidity variations during transport, causing salt bridges to form between granules. We address this issue in three ways: First, we keep moisture content strictly below 0.2% during drying. Second, we apply a high-efficiency hydrophobic anti-caking agent that forms a protective layer on each granule. Third, we package the product in multi-layer moisture-proof PP/PE bags with optional inner liners to prevent humidity absorption during transit.
Agricultural-grade CAN is optimized for soil application, mechanical spreading, and drip irrigation, emphasizing nutrient solubility, particle strength, and anti-caking properties. Technical-grade CAN demands higher purity levels, with strict limits on water-insoluble matter (typically less than 0.05%) and heavy metals. This ensures it is suitable for industrial manufacturing, water treatment formulations, and concrete accelerators without causing sedimentation or chemical interference.
Unlike pure ammonium nitrate, Calcium Ammonium Nitrate is generally classified as a non-hazardous substance for transport (under IMDG codes) when it contains less than 80% ammonium nitrate and is mixed with calcium carbonate/dolomite. Our product meets these safety criteria, which reduces freight costs and simplifies storage regulations for global distributors.
We support a range of packaging configurations to suit different logistics setups. Our options include 25kg PP/PE bags, 50kg bags, and 1,000kg/1,200kg jumbo bags (FIBC) with UV stabilization. We can also accommodate custom private labeling, palletized loading, and stretch wrapping based on client requirements.
We audit our raw dolomite quarries and utilize clean chemical synthesis streams to manage heavy metal content. Every production batch undergoes analysis in our on-site laboratory using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) to verify compliance with European Regulation (EU) 2019/1009 before dispatch.
